A collection of Comments from the Chaotic Front Readers

Here is the collection of comments from you, the Chaotic Front reader. I looked through them today while data-mining and I found some seriously heated statements. Check it out.
My question is just this: why did you not render your post in such a way that you made it clear that you were talking about specific pockets of Afrikaner culture? Also, what about white, racist English people? The way you presented your ideas made it seem as if though the majority of Afrikaans speakers are gearing up for civil war or are bunch of violent bigots. "Race and isms" do not excuse the derogatory way in which you depicted Afrikaans people. Your remarks were sweeping and generalised. These kinds of renditions cast fuel over the fire that is racial hatred. Land redistribution is indeed a sensitive topic. However, once one looks at the inefficacy of the SAPS in dealing with farm attacks, how can you blame the farmers for banding together for their own protection? Would you blame them if they defended themselves against violent land requisition? Since I have spoken to more than one commando leader, I can assure you that the only people they want dead are those who storm into on Foot In Mouth Disease

Chris. Your opinions and comments are well noted. I will tackle your points in no particular order. I happened to meet the leader of what is 100% Afrikaans militia which is training to protect farms and fight any land requisition plans that may arise. As you may know, repatriation is a very long-lived and tenacious topic when discussing the land question. These people happened to tell me much about their plans and why they formed a militia in the first place. There is surely murder in mind, for their metaphorical cross-hairs are aimed at Blacks, not any other race group. Mr Fourie, though uncouth, was an independent speaker, talking in his capacity. But the guns are there and people are waiting for chaos to kick in so they have excuses to retaliate. It is scary, Chris. About Fourie. He is Afrikaans. He is also a racist waiting for a reason to shoot Nigerians in the head. The stupidity he displayed happened to have a large violent element to it. It was not alright. Khaya, I find your use of irony interesting. One: in this post you claim that you struggle to accept labels. Why then do you use the label of the Racist Afrikaner? Are labels fine as long as they are used on one's opposition? I concede that what the individual had to say was racist. However, suggesting a link between that and his home language and/or his culture is a cheap, rhetorical shot, and a dangerous one at that. I am assuming that you are not referring to all the speakers of Afrikaans who are of Griekwa, San and Malay descent because that would make your argument rather unstable. Also, what exactly are you insinuating when you say: "There is murder in more than one Afrikaans mind and this simplex simpleton had the sheer dutch courage to get up on his feet and talk seriously about shooting Black people."? Are you suggesting that the Afrikaans language predisposes people to racist ideas or that the culture is somehow inherently discriminatory? If so, I should like some onFoot In Mouth Disease

At one point my mom was attending funerals every weekend. It broke my heart and I had to ask her to stop. After I had uZazi, my one cousin asked me if I had a life policy ngathi Cha. Wathi uma ngishona bazongigcwaba ngani? I was shocked. We cant afford to live, cause we're fixated on death. Our family has a history of working for NGOs, it's nearly always contract unless you work for the big boys like United Nations/FAO/WFP/UNICEF You have to spend an hour each day researching who's hiring and firing around the world and you have to send your CV off on a daily basis. You also have to put a lot of effort in staying on the NGO radar, submit good work to the right people and always show great enthusiasm. Don't let your boss take credit for your work, don't let your boss make you look bad, if they are assholes then just do their job for them and submit directly to head office. Once you get a name for someone who only has to be on the project for it to succeed then you will have a choice of contracts to choose from. I wouldn't let it get you down, just accept that politics amongst academics is brutal and make sure you stab them in the back first :P on I Thought I Was Safe: On Job Security

These words are just so penetrating and I wonder what really happens in our minds and in our lives, that compels us to forget so easily and to be so complacent: " We know full well of the violence in South Africa during the 1970s and 1980s. Chris Hani was killed in 1993, and where are his speeches now? Who chooses what we remember? Do we concede the violent past and it’s “inflammatory texts” for a weak semblance of South African Democracy? Are the words of Steven Biko not good enough to be studied in senior high school? I see the manipulation of public opinion. A re-writing of consensus. A travesty to the good works of the past, relegating it to just idealistic history." on Funda Wenze | Read Do | On Speeches

Thanks for writing this, mfowethu. Your writings are very grounded, and I mean that literally. The things I learn from you through this are things you learn by walking, seeing realities atop the earth. The irony of uNonhlanhla's name really hurt me to read. She must have seen such terrible things done by this country's policing force against human life. Where I live, I spoke with some people who had just been removed from a tiny corner of nearby land, along a train track. I asked them why they did it, even though the answer was obviously the greed of the bureaucracy, and he said he didn't know. What he did know was that, even though it was nearing the end of winter, it was still extremely cold. They now had no place to make fires, and no blankets, no bags, because they were taken. Your article reminds of something i wrote yesterday, i was annoyed by the injustices i see happening in our office space... I find it strange how we all play agents to something we don't know without even knowing we are doing it. Its bullshit and i don't care who initiates it, succumbing to nonsensical rules doesn't make you good, it makes you stupid. It’s the fear that grip people making them follow stupid rules. The majority of us have slave mentalities, perpetually enforced by the rules and systems in the environments we inhabit. Slaves do not have the capacity to stand up for one another, they know only to do as they are told and follow the rules, even if the rules infringe on the right of their fellow kin. The colleague I was talking to said, “She doesn’t care if I call her a sheep, she will tell me that I’m wrong if she feels believes so”. I thought how easy it is for her to point that finger at me, but what about the people who are actually doing us wrong, would she tell on State of Unrest

Hi, I have been following the eviction of Informal Traders in Cape Town and Joberg for the last year and half and have documented the legal matters regarding Informal Trade. There are so many things wrong about this picture, Its easy to mistaken this government act as a random act of cleaning the streets (as it comes across from someone who hardly ever walk on the market side, who doesn't understand how these people depend on their meagre market income for a living), but the fact that it's done so stealthily with the majority of us at work, not aware of what is happening, is a sure sign that our government is still not as democratic as it claims to be. As the people in this state, we need to be alerted and even consulted to a certain degree of the government plans, we cant still be living in such a segregated state that one government act can impact so severely on the lives of a social group, whilst the rest of the people go by with their existence without even feeling the effect of the abuse suffered by our won. I guess i can agree with FAMREC when saying it resonates very much an apart-heid regime, a coherent state would not allow such a thing to on Abakaqedi -They're Not Done

Brother did you say "Talk to the police ..." Well, I have tried that one before and so did Khuli Chana , the thing is people in authority tend to see themselves as inherently superior and if you show that you know your rights and are willing to defend others, you are basically treading on their toes or impeding the course of justice. Its a paradox I know, the defenders become the offenders and they take offense at others ... on Market Durban 22 October 2013

State Space An n-dimensional space with the property that each point in this space uniquely and completely describes the condition of the system you are studying at some particular time.
