eMails from the frontline

Dear All,
Amidst the cases we are inundated with daily, there's been a mix up in our meeting date to ventilate acts of terror against our Poor and Homeless. This arose from both yesterday and today being referred to as the 25th; which is why we were at 77 Monty Naicker Street at 11:55 today. Nevertheless, we can make ourselves available for a meeting on the 2nd or 3rd.
Meanwhile, we await updates on any investigations and actions taken to date as an act of good faith. We were advised by a counselor that the contract with P.Z for a slice of our budget was concluded in a hurry, without the necessary approvals, and during last year's festive period when Nelson Mandela died. Please provide all relevant documents as per the P.O.A.I.
Further, we have witnesses who state that they have been told by UMZ employees that there is going to be a massacre of our Poor and Homeless in eThekwini, starting tomorrow, and escalating to an all out war after the 7th of May. Your response about this insanity, as well as your assurance that you have ordered a stop on any and all acts of terror, are necessary.
Finally, kindly provide those copied herein with a comprehensive explanation on what your contract says about our legendary Early Morning Market. This is a Wikileaks cable that fellow activists will no doubt want to explore and comment on:http://www.wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/09DURBAN94_a.html

Dear Wendy,

You will see reference to UMZ Secureco in the Mail and Guardian article I sent you the link to; and our train attack case.
I'm glad you are taking this seriously; Kriben went quiet after the 27 Feb sms below, which was about working together.

Unfortunately today and tomorrow morning don't work for us. We can meet with you at 12 next week Tuesday the 25th.

Regards,
Palesa

As a matter of urgency can you please provide me with a report regarding this allegation.

Palesa - it is of utmost importance that we meet to discuss all the allegations against the UMZ security service provider as we have found that this service provider is been targeted and blamed for the actions of others.    Could you please meet with us at either 15H30 today (Wednesday 19th) or tomorrow at 08H00 at the UMZ offices on 77 Monty Naicker Road.

Regards
Wendy

Wendy,

Another poor and homeless person [this time an old man] was beaten up by umz guards last night. How are we to engage you when these crimes against humanity continue without any remorse and real action? Do we need to interdict umz?

Please refer to this sms from Kriben and update us: "Hi Shabnam. Are you associating us with the shooting in Whoonga park? If so, please investigate carefully the security company involved and who they were contracted by. Our guards are unarmed. We are aware of this company and who contracted them. Please assure your people of our good intentions. We only want to assist them in whatever way we can to improve their standard of living. There is alot that we do to assist the homeless in the CBD that you are not aware of. It would be our pleasure to highlight this to you and your colleagues. Thanks! Kriben"

Dear Wendy,

1. As the people involved in this meeting are mainly poor, homeless, oppressed, and violated; we have to be especially considerate about their availability. So, before Monday, I will advise if Thursday or Friday afternoon works better for us.

2. You should also know the brief statement we have issued via social media tonight and launch investigations:
Tonight at Our Workshop UMZ [Urban Management Zone] guards employed by Thekwini municipality [ie: YOU AND US] tried to spy on, intimidate and harass UhUrU Movement during our drama rehearsal and meeting. Then one of them [without a badge card of course] assaulted me for taking photographs of their faces. What are they hiding?

3. War On Our Poor: Daily News: http://m.iol.co.za/article/view/e/1.1634613

Mail and Guardian: #News #Homeless #Terror In @ThekwiniM #Durban #SouthAfrica  @MG_live http://m.mg.co.za/index.php?view=article&urlid=2014-02-13-durbans-homeless-face-of-harassment

SABC News: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyNAkgfXz3s

4. The question remains, what relationship is there between UMZ - Drake and Scull - ABSA - Fidelity - Securico - Now known as G4S, which is being boycotted globally. You may know.
More Here: http://t.co/rB7KGY4d0k

5. Feel free to attend our drama performance tomorrow at the stage area of the Workshop; call us if you need to.

Dear Shabnam

It is unfortunate that this meeting has again been postponed as it is of vital importance that you have a clear understanding of what the Urban Management process is all about as it is evident that you are clearly misinformed and your information is inaccurate.

Please make the time to meet with Thobile and myself on Monday 17th March any time after 14H00 at the Urban Management Offices on 77 Monty Naicker Road.   Please confirm the time best suited to you.

I need to clarify your statements below - please refer to my response highlighted in red.

Hi Thobile,

Please be advised that we are not available to meet tomorrow as several urgent matters and cases have arisen.

These include, inter alia:
- Daily robberies by our 'security guards' - I am not sure who you are referring to here as our "security guards".    The security guards deployed through the UMZ program prevent daily robberies.
- Continued attacks on/of our Homeless - No one working through the UMZ program have been engaged in any attacks.
- Threats to exterminate them end March - This is not in the mandate of the UMZ security.
- Threats to eliminate them after 7th May - This is not in the mandate of the UMZ.
- An ignorant letter from UMZ lawyers threatening to take me/Stand UP! Foundation/its members to court - UMZ do not have any lawyers.   UMZ is a project name for Urban Management which is run by the city council.   I would have no idea who would have sent you a lawyers letter using the UMZ name.

Kindly provide us with your response to the above before we set down a fresh date to meet. For quick clarity, it makes sense to have UMZ attorneys present; as well as Francois and others copied in. Audio-visual facilities are also necessary.
