Word Weapons & Text Talons

I was told today that one cannot fight with words. I quote, without permission "We can't fight with words. People trust pictures. Pictures = evidence, your words stir the heart and hands to move accordingly."

The world is not made up of words. It is made of objects. And it is Don Delillo who said that the true life cannot be reduced to words. Ever.

Yet there are these stubborn people in the world, that seek always to communicate with the multiverse through words. Like me. The Writer is a multi-vocational person. When truly working, the Writer is Scientist, Hunter, Gatherer, Artist and every necessary field under the stars. Words are not just a way to communicate. They are a trap. They are wings. They are weapons as much as they are tools. It is a bright world with words in it. Life is so full of details and, at its most intense, is difficult to contain within sentences.
Why do we try? We Poets, Essayists and Novelists.  Is it for the same reason Impressionists paint the sunset, even though the sun is not made of paint? Are we looking for the reality beyond the veil? There are many questions about Art and many words have been used. But it is good to muse, to think and explore. It is important. It is wise.  My battles  will be fought with sentences and punctuation. Let's see if my sharp tongue can make some people bleed.

And to those that Write, from the briefest poems to the most cumbersome tomes: excelsior, I say.
