Tonight is Many Nights From Before

It has been months since I've been to a Metal show. I miss the energy, the cathartic violence and all-round good spirit of the Metal community. It has always felt awesome to be amongst people that aren't ready to judge you from the word go. Just to enjoy music from the louder side of life. Tonight, I am going to see Desolation, at the Winston Pub. who have been having a great year and producing powerful, intelligent material. Their band members include some old friends and band mates of mine. from Creophagous, Pledge Defiance, Contrast The Water and The Twelve-Forty-Five. It all sounds so long ago that we were all banging heads all over South Africa, but it doesn't feel like it.

I can still remember having a dry bong with some of the more substance inclined members, long ago. Getting baked out of our skulls before playing a 1 hour set. Club-hopping and then playing another. Days when we couldn't speak or walk straight because we put our bodies on the line to give a great show are still with me. I know that after my first Code of Silence gig, I couldn't speak properly for 2 days.

Discovering new bands together was always fun. i know that soon after discovering Anaal Nathrak, I burned a copy of Hell Is Empty and All The Devils Are Here  and carried it everywhere. Desolation's drummer, Nic was driving us to a party we were performing at and we played that thing so loud I was dizzy when we finally got out of his car. -sigh- Good times. Without a doubt, Pledge Defiance ended as a joke, a travesty and a tragedy compared to it's brutal beginnings, but member deaths and too many band member changes can do that to the best of them.

Tonight, is gonna be nostalgic and fun. I just find it so relieving to put into words the excitement and incomparable keenness I feel right now.

If you're in Durban South Africa. Let's meet there. I'll be the dreadlocked Black dude in a brand new Desolation T-shirt.  \m/
